July 6, 2020 Update Email

You are receiving this email because you either signed up via the Google sheet doc or subscribed to Diploma Privilege for Maryland to stay informed about Diploma Privilege advocacy in Maryland. We have news...

1. Our survey is still live! You can access it either from our website or by clicking this link directly. This survey is for Maryland Bar applicants only. This is an Impact Survey and the data will be provided to the Court of Appeals. It also has a place for you to voice your concerns and provide testimonials. Your voice matters in this conversation. Please pass the survey on to any and all Maryland Bar applicants - the more submissions from Maryland Bar Applicants the better.

2. Late last week we met with both UB's Dean Weich and UMB's Dean Tobin. Both Deans support us and agreed to work together to publicly advocate for Diploma Privilege for Maryland. They also agreed to submit a letter to the Court of Appeals in support of Diploma Privilege. We will be collaborating with them in the coming weeks. They are of the impression it is very unlikely that MD will adopt Diploma Privilege but that was, of course, expected. Our advocacy will not waver.

3. We are currently analyzing and synthesizing the data from the MD Bar Impact Survey. We will include this data in the letter to the Court. We will also include this data in a script which we will post on our website for everyone to use when contacting their state representatives. We will alert you when these are both ready. Everything will be accessible on our website

4. In preparation for the October exam, Dean Tobin is working with UMB to close the University of Maryland's Law School for October 5th and 6th to allow MD Bar Applicants to use the university sit for the exam. These negotiations are in the preliminary stage.

While we encourage everyone to still prepare for the remote October bar exam, we are fully dedicated to advocating for Diploma Privilege. Please be patient with us as we work to get the letter and script written.

In solidarity,

Two D.C. native bar applicants have recently launched "Law Graduates for Sensible Bar Admission" (LGSBA). In short, they are organizing legal representation for bar applicants in an effort to file lawsuits against various State Board of Law Examiners and NCBE.

We deliver this information to you as a resource, should you be interested in joining their efforts.
